Opening Game Sting

Are you ready for some football?  Now that you have paid off that increased Hokie Club donation so you would not end up in Section 37, Row ZZZZZ for the next 5 years are you ready to hoist a SoCo and get this thing started?  Once again the place to be will be in Lot 7 for the HokieMobile Tailgate.  We did upgrade our giving level but cannot give up the fun of Lot 7.  Looking forward to reuniting with old friends and making new friends again this year.  Feel free to bring a friend or even a fan from the opposing team each and every week.  Tune in each week to find out the menu and skinny on the upcoming games.  Please send in your photos throughout the year so I can post them for all to see and feel free to comment on the blog so at least I know someone is reading it.

Well here we go again, two game in 6 days.  Anyone remember JMU?  Sure Georgia Tech is not Boise State of old but getting up for the Austin Peay Governers after an important Coastal Division deciding game on a short week can spell disaster.  I guess I would take 0-2 if I was assured of 12 straight wins but losing sucks so hopefully we are able to survive the Ga Tech triple option and still have enough gas in the tank to blow out the Govenors.

#16 Virginia Tech leads the battle of the TECHS 6-3 since 1990 when #35 Georgia Tech won a share of the National Championship.  The winner has been the Coastal Champion since we joined the ACC in 2004 ( Sorry Canes ).  The games have all been close and most decided by 7 points or less.  Al Groh promises and stingy 3-4 defense with his recruits but I do not know about you I am not scared one bit.  Our offense has several new faces and several very young (freshman) faces but I believe Frank will have them ready.  Ga Tech is celebrating their 120th year of football this year.  One of their pround moments in history is the 222-0 drubbing of Cumberland with John Heisman at the helm.  Looking for Ga Tech to try and pass against us to open up their running attack but Bud Foster's defense should be able to shut that down even with inexperience in the defensive backfield.

The HokieMobile is planning to set up in Lot 7 around 4pm if I can get in.  The students are in class on Monday and offically we are not allowed in until 4:30pm.  Bob will be cooking a Pork butt for eating on a bun (pun intended) or by itself.  Please bring whatever you think would go well with pork and would like to share with the group.  The HokieMobile Toast will be at 7:00pm so everyone can stop by the Virginia Soybean Display on the west side of Cassell and then find their new seats for the next several years.  No fly by scheduled, just fireworks when the team comes out of the tunnel and hopefully many times after that when we score!

Game time is 8 pm courtesy of ESPN.  We love our night games but MONDAY night is a stretch.  Hopefully the fireworks and a health win will make it easier to return to work the next day.  Apparently not everyone can take Tuesday off because as of this writting 200 tickets remained for the game.  Hey Tech how about giving them away to the local fans who would love to see a game at Lane??  The weather is hard to predict at this early time because of Issac and its unknown path northward but most are predicting a high of 79 and low of 65.  Unfortunately there is a 60% chance of rain with 97% humidity.  If you have a pop up tent or any structure that will keep us dry please pack it in the car and bring it with you.  I don't like the rain, it favors the Ga Tech running attack.

Looking ahead to Saturday when the Govenors come to town we are planning Hotdogs and Hamburgers.  The game is 1:30pm and trying to make it easy.  Thinking about catering the FSU game if enough people are interested in chipping in.  It would free everyone up to relax on preparing food and enjoy the evening.  Find me and let me know what you think.  Bob Hall has 4 tickets available for the September 8th game against Austin Peay.  Catch him at the tailgate early before too many gin and tonics if you are interested.  Anyone who has tickets for sell and wants me to post them on this blog just let me know and what information you are willing to publish so you can be contacted and I will gladly do so.

I am excited to see everyone to catch up on your lives and look forward to new friends and the return of previous friend this season.  Travel safe and if you can not make it this week we will save your spot for next time.

GO HOKIES!!!   BEAT THE JACKETS!!
